About Me…
Finding humanity in the mess: plays and scripts that confront, challenge, and connect.
I am a writer with a strong, distinct voice, forged by the contradictions of growing up mixed-race and working-class in Edinburgh’s Banana Flats. My background of a Scottish/Asian heritage, a Catholic upbringing, the realities of racism, class struggle, and later living with epilepsy — has stitched identity, resilience, and contradiction into the heart of my writing.
My writing carries the grit, humour, and mess of that upbringing and is shaped by a fascination with character-driven stories that reflect the chaos of real life. I reach for stories that reveal both scars and humour, that entertain while also provoking empathy and challenging assumptions. I am drawn to narratives that cut through stereotypes and amplify voices too often pushed to the margins. As a writer my work explores identity, memory, and belonging through raw, character-driven storytelling.
My work shifts between dark comedy and intimate drama, from SHIPS, a two-hander rooted in my own background, to Soi Cowboys, a dark comedy series set in Bangkok’s expat world, and plays that use theatre and memory to confront history. Whatever the form, my aim is the same: to tell stories that move, challenge, and resonate long after the lights go come up.
